IMPORTANT: FALL FUNDRAISING WORKSHOPS FOR LIGHTHOUSE ORGANIZATIONS - October 21 and November 11 (Click for PDF flyer)

The Michigan Lighthouse Fund is opening two fundraising sessions to local organizations which own or lease a Michigan lighthouse, or are in the transfer process. Registration is limited to these groups in order to assure clear focus on the specific needs of Michigan’s non-profit lighthouse support groups.

An expert fundraising trainer—Joan Flanagan—will manage the workshop and present the key elements of successful fundraising. Ms. Flanagan, who lives in Chicago, has worked extensively with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and scores of other historic preservation, arts, and philanthropic organizations. She is the author of two fundraising handbooks, a contributor to numerous publications, and a lecturer/instructor at universities both here and abroad.

The sessions will focus on Michigan lighthouses, within the context of their coastal communities. Here are a few of the subjects Joan will cover, in her practical, down-to-earth style:

* Planning for multiple income streams
* How to make the case for your lighthouse
* Where the money is for your project
* How to ask for money
* Making all this fit in your community
